Spigen Selfie Stick

Hi all, welcome to the review of Spigen Selfie Stick S520W(Wired Version).

Where I get it?
I got it from
http://list.qoo10.sg/item/SPIGEN-SELFIE-STICK-WITH-REMOTE-SHUTTER/437266275
I got it for SGD18.9.

Why I get it?
I am going to Japan soon, I will lug a camera around but it will be too troublesome to take photos with my wife having to set timer, mount it on a stand etc. Rather, using a selfie stick, it can take pretty decent shots with a good front camera mount onto a selfie stick. And if you practice hard enough, you can use the back camera to take selfie and it will be awesome.

The product
You can read alot more from the Qoo10 website I posted (or here: http://www.spigen.com/products/spigen-selfie-stick-s520).
Material: Stainless steel
Collapsed length: 200mm
Total length: 560-830mm
Extended length: 780mm
Weight: 120g
Work with: IOS and Android

Here, I will show you some photos and the actual product and what are my experience when I use it.

I like the fact the mounting head can be bended 180 degree to be kept in a compact manner. The product is very good to hold in the hand and it is light weighs only 120g. The handle bar is wrapped with a rubber material, and the plastic mounting head is well build.

How do I know that plastic mounting head is well build? Because I worked in a plastic molding company and therefore, having a slight knowledge of what to look out for in plastic injection molding. There wasn't any burring. and the top and bottom of the mounting head is made of rubber material for better grip.

There is a 3.5mm jack which you connect to your phone, and with a push of the camera icon button at the selfie stick, it will take a photo. Simple.
S520W version does not uses any battery and therefore, much convenient. You need not set up and bluetooth connection and replace any battery.

The only concern I have, is the thin 3.5mm jack cable. It is really thin, I guessed. As you can see from the photo, it is connected to from the stick handle all the way to the mounting head. But I guess, it's gonna take sometime before I can comment on the readability of the cable. So far, I only use it for a week.

The retracted length is about 190mm and is easy to keep in the front of back pocket. I have no problem with it.

I especially like the mounting head. When I pull open the mounting head to insert my Note 4, I found it open fairly easy, and it grip the Note 4 just nice. I somehow like the spring compression that it uses.

The screw is easy to release and lock, with just a few turn. I have seen some selfie stick which was build using the wrong screw and require to make too many turns to unlock and lock.

As you can see the rubber material at the bottom of the mounting head, it not only provide a good support for your phone, it grip wells, it also protect your phone from being scratched.

Is it original?

This I am not very sure. Using a Spigen Product Number provided in a little note inside the box, I go went to original.spigen.com to key in the product key. I am able to affirm that this is a original spigen product. Though I was happy, but the packaging that comes with this box is sort of... hmm... cheap. I bought Spigen product before and the packaging that comes with it is of high quality and very specific about details. Anyway, since the website confirmed this a genuine product, then it must be so :)

How to set the Note 4 to use with Spigen Selfie Stick

Open your camera app, set click on the gear icon and then the 3 dots to bring out more options.

Now, click on the "The volume key", and you will be provided with 3 options, choose whichever you want. example, if you want to take picture when you press the camera icon button, choose the "Take pictures" option.

We can actually do the same things with a selfie stick and you attached your ear piece (with the volume control and play/pause) to the Note 4. With the camera app started, and when you press the volume button at the ear piece, it will take a photo shot.

My conclusion
There are many selfie stick around, with all the same function, wired or bluetooth. But this particular Spigen selfie stick is really well build and solid. Some selfie sticks are poorly built and when the phone is mounted onto the mounting head, the entire stick rotates around the extension due to the phone weigh.
I can't yet say that this S520W will not rotate, but it is fairly tight when I extend or retract the extension, so i know it is going to last awhile :)

Overall, I will give it a 4.5/5 star. It is definitely worth buying, and I already have friends asking me where did I get it :)
